![]() Besides ensuring that the actual stock and book stock agree all the time, the system makes the storekeeper go round his stores and observe any leakage, wastage or pilferage that might be occurring so that all such losses can be, then, promptly checked. In this way all the items are checked three or four times a year instead of only once under the annual stock-taking. The following day, the next 15 or 20 items are taken up and their physical stock and book stock compared. Because the number of receipts or issues would not be large, the cause of the discrepancy would be known and removed. If there is a disagreement, the discrepancy is explained there and then. Under this system, fifteen or twenty items of stock are taken up every- day by the Bin Card or the Stores Ledger. The continuous stock-taking removes this drawback. But since this involves going through the records of the whole year and trying to remember what happened throughout the year, generally the disagreement cannot be explained and the book figures have to be adjusted. If there is any disagreement, it should be capable of an explanation. ![]()
